Woman cut free from M4 Hungerford accident

Vehicle roof removed before patient taken to hospital

A WOMAN was taken to hospital today (Thursday) after being cut out of a car, following an M4 accident near Hungerford.

Both pumps from Newbury and a third, from Tilehurst, were called at 1.30pm to the M4 westbound, about 300 metres from the slip road at Junction 14.

Firefighters discovered a silver Peugeot 206, with a male driver and female passenger had rolled, before the vehicle righted itself, on four wheels.

The driver had got out of the car, with no other vehicles involved.

Firefighters cut off the car roof, before the woman was then removed from the vehicle.

She was given over into the care of waiting paramedics and taken to hospital.

The slow lane of the carriageway was closed throughout.

Firefighters left the scene after an hour.

UPDATE

South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) sent two ambulances to the scene at 1.29pm.

One patient was taken to the Great Western Hospital, in Swindon.

The ambulance service did not have any details recorded as to the patient's injuries.
