Reading Magistrates' Court: Newbury woman exposed as rail cheat
A WOMAN has been landed with a £440... for trying to cheat on a £6 rail fair.
Sarah Malden Harre was due in the dock at Reading Magistrates' Court on Friday, January 21.
But the 52-year-old, who lives at Springhurst, off The Nightingales, Greenham, did not turn and magistrates found the case against her proved in her absence.
Specifically Ms Harre was convicted of travelling on a Great Western Railway (GWR) train at Newbury on August 4 last year without having paid her £6 fare and with the intention of dodging the payment.
She was fined £220.
In addition, Ms Harre was ordered to pay costs of £180, plus a statutory victim services surcharge of £34.
Finally, she was ordered to pay GWR £6 in compensation for the rail fare she tried to cheat.
