A Headley woman is running the London Marathon this year to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK.

Georgina Lawrence will be taking part in the world-famous 26-mile race on April 21 in memory of her grandad David Watts, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's at the age of 64 and suffered with the condition until he passed away aged 80.

Ms Lawrence said: “I was 11 when my grandad David was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2003 and it was really tough for our whole family.

“What I found hardest was watching my granny, Carole, go through the loss. She was so devoted to grandad and her struggles were what upset me the most.

“That’s why I feel extremely fortunate to run the London Marathon for Alzheimer’s Research UK in memory of my grandad.

“There’s just no comparison for me in terms of which charity I want to support.

“Being able to raise money for a cause that is so close to me and my family makes all the training ten times more worthwhile.”

She has already beaten her fundraising target of £2,200. To donate to it, visit her JustGiving page at https://rebrand.ly/yxyllwv
