Woman thanks Good Samaritans who came to her dog's rescue
Greenham Common couple were 'so kind'
A DOG owner has told how a pair of Good Samaritans came to her rescue after her pet, Zeta, was injured and immobilised on Greenham Common.
Eilleen Hill was walking the Labrador Collie cross when disaster struck on Monday, May 18.
She said Zeta, who suffers from arthritis and a displaced hip, was bowled over by a playful Rhodesian Ridgeback.
But instead of bounding back up, she lay there, howling and unable to move.
Miss Hill, a retired Lloyds Bank employee who lives at Westgate Road, Newbury, said: “I couldn’t lift her and my car was a long way off, back at Pyle Hill.
“I didn’t know what to do, but luckily, a very kind lady and gentleman came to my rescue.
“Zeta is a two-and-a-half-year-old rescue dog from a puppy farm and she’s frightened of men, so the lady offered to stay with her while I went to get my car as close as possible.
“The gentleman went back to his own car to get a blanket.”
She added: “We were able to get Zeta onto the blanket and then use it like a sling so that, between us, we could carry her back to my car.
“It wasn’t easy because she kept trying to wriggle out, as she was frightened of the gentleman.
“I don’t know what I would have done if they hadn’t stopped by and helped me.
“But in all the excitement and worry I never even thought to ask their names and all I know is that they called their own dog Alfie.
“I apologise for spoiling their evening, as it was a perfect night, but I’d like to express my sincere gratitude to them both. They were so kind.”
Once back home, said Miss Hill, Zeta made a rapid recovery.
She added: “I gave her some of her painkillers and asked a friend, who works at a vet’s, to check her over.
“There was nothing broken, luckily, and she was soon back to her old self.”
