Woman trapped in mud at Snelsmore Common pulled out by firefighters
Watch manager of Red Watch at Newbury Fire Station, Mike Wilson, said three pumps were called at 5.45pm, including two from Newbury and one from Hungerford, together with the water rescue unit from Reading, to the Bagnor road end of Snelsmore Common.
A woman was discovered sunk to her knees in mud and stuck fast.
“She had a whistle and mobile telephone and was blowing the whistle and telephoning for help,” said Mr Wilson, adding the woman had fallen into an area of sticky deep mud, covered in leaves.
“She was very cold and taken to hospital,” he added.
Around ten firefighters took part in the rescue operation, which involved reaching the woman by ladder, before pulling her out of the mud and bringing her back along the ladder to safety.
Firefighters left the scene at 7.30pm.
UPDATE
South Central Ambulance Services spokesman, Matt George, said the woman was taken to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon, with no further information as to her condition.
