Women raise more than £2,000 for friend with Motor Neurone Disease

A group of friends have walked 25k for a friend diagnosed with a rare condition.

Thatcham resident Gemma Robinson and her friends pushed themselves to the limits for Beccy Carey, who has Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

The group, who walked in the Cotswolds on Saturday (June 25), have raised more than £2,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Foundation.

Despite her enthusiasm, Mrs Robinson was hospitalised herself and couldn’t make the walk with her friends.

She said: “I didn’t do it in the end but Beccy and I met them at the end. They were tired but they did have a real buzz about them.

“I was really proud of all of them; I could not be more proud of a group of friends.

“We all always go above and beyond to help each other.”

The fundraiser is still going online and donations can be made to the women's JustGiving page ‘Gin Girls Cotswold Challenge for MNDA #TeamBeccy’

The women are going to continue in their efforts to raise money and awareness for the cause but are considering a different activity.

“I was gutted that I could not do this and have pressured them to do it again next year but they weren’t so sure," Mrs Robinson laughed.

“We might leave it for a couple years and maybe do something else next year.”
