Alice in Wonderland-inspired EasterFest comes to Newbury town centre this April
A three-day Easter festival themed around Alice in Wonderland is coming to Newbury town centre this April.
Beginning on Friday, April 15, and lasting the rest of the weekend, the festival will feature street entertainers, children’s activities, live music and a street food court.
Set up by the Newbury Business Improvement District (BID), EasterFest will take place on Northbrook Street and continue along Bartholomew Street.
Newbury BID operations manager Alison Drummond said: “By working in partnership once again with LSD Promotions on EasterFest, and by collaborating with local charity Swings & Smiles on an exciting Easter egg hunt across the town centre, Newbury’s Easter holiday offering is arguably the most exciting yet.”
Characters from Lewis Carroll’s classic tale, including the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts and Alice herself, will deliver musical performances and carry out meet and greets.
The Easter Bunny will also be present to deliver a two-week charity egg hunt that will run through the entire school holiday.
Town centre businesses are currently voting on whether to extend Newbury BID for another five-year term.
Ms Drummond said: “As we near the end of our BID ballot, it’s even more important for us at the BID to deliver an event that benefits the town centre and our levy-paying businesses, as this could be our last.
“Without a majority 'yes' vote, Newbury BID, our Visit Newbury brand and events such as these will cease, and all the hard work we have done to put Newbury on the map and increase footfall back to pre-Covid levels would be lost.”
