Woody the cat's happy ending after being thrown out of a car
Luckily for the black cat, a passing motorist saw the incident, in which he said a young driver took the cat from the boot of a car and hurled it into Marlston Woods, near Cold Ash.
At first he believed the driver was fly tipping because the throw was so aggressive. It was only when he walked into the woods and heard a feeble meow that he realised it was a cat that he had witnessed being literally thrown away.
The motorist drove it straight to the Cats Protection adoption centre, Curridge, where staff named it Woody.
A vet passed him fit, except for two sores on each side of his face, which might have occurred while he tried to escape from a carrier or cage in the car boot.
He must now remain at the centre for two weeks, classed as a stray, in the highly unlikely chance of an owner calling to claim him. Once the two weeks have passed, the centre hopes to find Woody, thought to be about five years old, a new home.
Centre manager Karen Clarke said: “We’re horrified at what happened to Woody. How could anyone do such a thing when there are so many rescue charities and veterinary surgeries in this area? All this person needed to do was give us a call and we could have helped.
“Woody was so lucky that a caring person was there to see it happen and seek help immediately.”
