Woolhampton and Thatcham Scouts win camp challenge

The annual event organised by Berkshire Scouts involved 30 campers who were competing in pairs in a number of tasks including setting up tents, cooking a meal on lightweight stove, lighting fires, hiking and navigating, building catapults, identifying leaves and toasting marshmallows.
Local teams included 2nd Newbury Scouts, 1st Thatcham, 2nd Thatcham, 1st Woolhampton and 1st Cold Ash.
After 28 hours, the judges awarded joint-first place to Woolhampton Scouts and 2nd Thatcham Scouts.
The competition originates back to the 1930s and was introduced by David Cameron’s grandfather, the late Sir William Mount of Wasing Park.
