Woolhampton crash driver fights for life
The drama happened around 1pm today (Thursday) on the busy A4 Bath Road when the articulated lorry, carrying a mobile home, crashed into the pub.
Firefighters from Reading, Newbury and Dee Road in Reading attended and the driver was cut free before being airlifted by the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford with what South Central Ambulance Service spokesman James Keating-Wilkes described as “life threatening injuries.”
Meanwhile the road remained closed in both directions at 3.35pm.
Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman Nicole Targett said: “We responded to a call from the ambulance service at 1.02pm of reports that an articulated lorry carrying a mobile home had crashed into the Rising Sun.”
Staff and customers at the pub were said to have been shaken but unhurt.
Translux International, manufacturers of the mobile home, supply location vehicles to the film and television industry, however the lorry’s final destination has not yet been confirmed.
Another vehicle, an Audi, is also reported to have been involved in the incident.
