Woolton Hill author's book
New book for people involved in adoption put together by local author
A NEW book penned by a Woolton Hill author is aimed at helping adopted children and their families get to know
each other.
Jean Maye, aged 50, a writer and consultant social worker, has just seen her fourth book Me and My Family published
by the British Association for Adoption and Fostering.
The book is divided into three parts, which adoptive families complete togetherwith the child, under the headings:
Introducing Ourselves and Welcoming You; Moving In and Getting to Know Each Other; and Living Together.
It provides space for both the adoptivechild and the new family to write, draw, or insert photographs about themselves and their feelings as they get to know each other.
However, Ms Maye said that it was “very much the child's book”.
“When a child is adopted, their new family is armed with information about the child they are adopting, but the child will only have basic information about their new parents and family,” she said.
Ms Maye dedicated the book to a school friend, Lucy, and her adoptive mother, Erica, whom she said had inspired her.
