Woolton Hill pre-school win special Diamond Jubilee tickets
Trip to Westminster Abbey in the offing next month for the north Hampshire school, in the presence of the Queen
JUBILANT children at a Woolton Hill pre-school have started making preparations for a special trip to London in March, in the presence of the Queen Elizabeth II.
Staff and children at Woolton Hill pre-school, which meets at St Thomas' church hall, found out yesterday (Monday) that they had won tickets to attend the Commonwealth Day Observance in Westminster Abbey, on Monday, March 12.
The day is among many of the 2012 celebrations for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, the anniversary of which was officially yesterday, following her six decades as Queen of England and 60 years as Head of the Commonwealth.
To win the tickets, the pre-school entered a Jubilee Time Capsule schools' competition.
Pre-school manager, Brenda Login, said this involved parents, staff and children recalling memories over the last 60 years since the Queen was first crowned and under different categories, such as birthdays, with just over 30 entries, including photographs.
“We are thrilled,” said Mrs Login of the pre-school's achievement.
The best entries in the competition will be curated into the Royal Collection and presented to The Queen later in 2012, as a crowd-sourced, people's history of the last 60 years.
