Work starts on new Newbury store
Dunelm Mill is due to open in the old MFI building in the London Road retail park later this year
WORK has started on the new Dunelm Mill store which is due to open in the old MFI building in the London Road Retail Park, bringing good news for unemployed people in the area.
The store, which aims to employ 70 people, most of whom will be recruited locally, will open in the autumn and will stock the group's usual range of home décor and content.
A spokeswoman for the store, Louise Barltrop, said: “We will employ people of varying levels in the store. We have an active recruitment policy with Job Centre Plus and we will also recruit via our website and other sources.”
She said the recruitment process would start next month (August).
Asked why Newbury was selected for a new store, she said: “We are always looking for places where we have customer demand and we believe there is customer demand in the area.”
The group's nearest stores are located in Reading and Swindon.
Meanwhile the Currys.Digital store in Northbrook Street is set to close on August 13 and will relocate to the existing Currys store in Newbury Retail Park, off Pinchington Lane.
Some staff have already relocated from the store.
