Work well underway for new Sainsbury's petrol station

The site will soon be home to a Sainsbury’s Local shop, larger than the store previously located there, and a petrol station, which will create around 20 full- and part-time jobs.
Permission for the Total station to be demolished was granted by West Berkshire Council early last year, despite several objections by nearby residents and Newbury Town councillors, as well as a petition opposing the plans which contained more than 150 signatures. The bulk of the objections related to noise and light pollution, anti-social behaviour and parking issues.
It faced further opposition from residents in August when the supermarket applied for an alcohol licence for the site, which was subsequently approved by the council.
The store will be open from 8am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 10.30pm on Sundays.
Acquisitions manager for Sainsbury’s, Mark Rush, said: “Work has begun on site.
“We are hoping to open late April/early May, and very much look forward to welcoming people to our new store.”
