Caffeine-fuelled fundraisers in support of Macmillan Cancer underway across Newbury
THE COFFEE cups will be clinking at a host of World's Biggest Coffee Morning (WBCM) events lined up across the Newbury area today (Friday).
Thatcham residents are urged to join town mayor Lee Dillon for a cup of Fairtrade coffee or tea and home made cakes at Broadway Green, between 10am and 1pm.
Pupils at Beenham primary school have planned a mufti day, for a £1-per-pupil, along with a cake sale from 9am and cafe between 9am and 11am, with pupils acting as waiters and waitresses. All are welcome.
Barclays Bank, in Newbury Market Place, is offering tasty treats and a cuppa while customers bank between 10am and midday.
Local businesses donated tombola prizes and the bank has vowed to match any cash raised by employees and customers. West Berkshire Indoor Bowls Club at Greenham Road, is hoping for lots of local support at a coffee morning between 10am and 12.30pm, with a raffle and stalls to browse.
Also in Greenham, Greenacre Leisure Centre's cafe will be serving coffee and cakes between 9am and 2.30pm.
Gowrings Ford in Pinchington Lane has asked staff to buy and bake cakes for an all-day coffee 'morning' while Thatcham Garden Centre, Bath Road, is also inviting people along for tea and coffee between 9am and 12pm.
In Donnington village, Donnington Trust Almhouses are holding a coffee morning from 11am.
The charity has this year pledged to award a glittering trophy to the company which raises the most money at their coffee morning - The World's Biggest Coffee Morning Berkshire Challenge Cup.
“The huge cup will be engraved with the company name and it will be yours to proudly keep and display for a year...who knows who might nab the title in 2012,” said the charity's fundraising manager, Jan Treacher-Evans.
Meanwhile staff at the Newbury Weekly News' Faraday Road headquarters (pictured) invite customers to join them for cakes and coffee from 10am today for a £1 donation.
