The Castle School in Monks Lane, Newbury, invited firms to attend its annual celebration of work experience – the World of Work (WOW)
Employers were sent to the top of the class when they went back to school last week.
The Castle School in Monks Lane invited firms to attend its annual celebration of work experience – the World of Work (WOW).
The school teaches children with complex additional needs and works with firms and organisations to provide opportunities for its pupils, helping them get an understanding of the world beyond the classroom.
Those attending enjoyed a lunch, before taking part in a presentation to thank them for their contribution to the week. A video, created by the school, gave students an opportunity to talk about their experience and what it meant to them.
Nicola Hall, the school’s employer engagement officer, said the event was well attended.
“It was a wonderful, positive opportunity to celebrate pupils' achievements and thank all the businesses who are involved,” she continued.
“Awards were presented to Newbury Racecourse, West Berkshire Council Shared Lives and The Ugly Duckling Pottery Painting Coffee House in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the programme over the past year.
“The Castle School believes ‘every student should have the opportunity to gain employment if they have the desire and drive to do so, regardless of disability’. The impact of the opportunities offered through World of Work can be truly life-changing for the students involved.”
