Yattendon church holds first service in three months today
The entire roof of St Peter and St Paul has been replaced with handmade tiles, costing in the region of £70,000, and has caused the church to be closed since April.
The church raised £30,000 through fund raising events, £250 of this was through local people sponsoring individual tiles, and signing them with names and messages, which have been used to tile the porch.
Donations of £30,000 and £10,000 were also made by English Heritage and the Greenham Common Trust respectively.
Services were held at St Frideswide’s Church, Frilsham, while the work was carried out.
The secretary of Yattendon parochial church council, Robert Morley, said the new roof “will live out the life times of any children who come to the church.
“Everyone thinks it looks really good.”
Internal redecoration is now being planned, which will see that church close again.
