Yattendon pub "delighted" with latest award
The licensee of the West Berkshire pub, Rob McGill said that he was delighted to receive the news, which was confirmed on Tuesday when the new guide was published.
The publication describes the Royal Oak, which also offers seven en suite bedrooms, as an “elegantly handsome brickbuilt inn with a lot of civilised character.
Excellent modern bar food, friendly service and seats in a pretty garden.”
Forty-one-year-old Mr McGill, who has been licensee at the pub for three years, praised his head chef Toby Barrett after winning the award.
“It’s wonderful to receive such an award. It’s testament to the food that our head chef Toby Barrett serves up,” he said. “We try to serve classic, unfussy pub and bistro dishes.
“We try and give people what they want in a simple and unpretentious way.”
The pub serves up starters from £6, including Cornish sardines with quinoa and chilli salad, with a number of classic mains from £13, including lobster and chorizo tagliatelle.
A selection of sandwiches are also available, with traditional puddings such as lemon meringue pie and spotted dick and custard, and British cheeses from Grey’s in Pangbourne,
