You should have seen the one that got away!
Newbury angler Bob Challis and his son Jack caught this huge beast using a rod and line before hauling it to the bank and wrestling it to the ground.
The intrepid pair went alligator fishing in the Florida Everglades in America but Mr Challis senior, aged 49, said: “We didn’t want to kill such magnificent creatures so we arranged the trip with an alligator management company which specialises in the removal of nuisance ‘gators.
“As it turned out, there were a few which had been troubling farmers - one had eaten a cow herder’s dog and another had attacked a fruit picker while he was washing the pesticides from his hands in a nearby creek.”
Mr Challis, of Conifer Crest, and his son used garfish as bait and electrical tape to keep the alligators’ huge jaws shut.
They caught five, the largest of which weighed more than 400lbs.
They later transported them to a nearby lake where they could not trouble farm workers.
