Young radio society member is VIP at Bletchley Park event
Kennet School pupil David, along with fellow member Phill Morris, of Lambourn, were invited as VIP guests by the society to represent NADARS for its success in winning the Thames Valley region RSGB Club of the Year 2013, and coming runners-up in the national award.
The Lord Lieutenant spent time talking to David, who was invited as NADARS’ youngest member, aged just 13.
David said: “I had a great time at Bletchley Park. It was an amazing experience and I am very grateful that I was able to go.
“One of the best parts of the day was meeting Sir Henry, who I had a lengthy chat with, answering all his questions about amateur radio and about me. It was definitely a great day and one I will always remember.”
The chairman of NADARS, Jeremy Willis, said that David was an excellent ambassador for the club and his family should be very proud of his achievement.
He said: “We are pleased to have been able to give him the opportunity to represent Newbury.”
The event was held at Bletchley Park, Milton Keynes, which as well as being the site of the Government’s codebreaking operation during the Second World War, also housed a secret radio intercept and message sending station.
