Youngster's cake sale brings in £200 for Boxford Masques
More than £200 was raised at the event held at Nuffield Health Club, Newbury – double the group’s £100 target – thanks to those purchasing cakes and donations through the Find Me A Grant scheme.
The mastermind behind the fundraiser was Isabelle Moore, aged 11, who is involved in Boxford Masques through the Watermill Junior Youth Theatre (JYT) Group.
She baked the majority of the cakes sold at the event – among them almond macaroons, rocky road and blueberry muffins – with her friend and fellow JYT member Tilly Bycroft.
Other baked treats were donated by Boxford Masque supporters.
Isabelle’s mum, Julia Moore, said: “It has been a wonderful experience for two young girls to see how a few hours work in the kitchen and a few hours chatting at an event can generate such a warm response from the public and translate into healthy donations for The Masques.
“The event would not have been possible without the kind support of Nuffield Health Club Newbury.”
Boxford Masques is a biennial event in West Berkshire which dates back to the 19th century.
It ceased at the beginning of the First World War but was reformed at the start of the 21st century and became a charitable community play.
The Boxford Masques group will next take to the stage for Joe Soap’s Masquerade, written by Geralidine McCaughrean, in Welford Park from July 30 to August 3.
