Youth music night makes return after successful debut

A youth music night is making its return in Newbury after a successful debut in June.

The second Youth Music Night will be held at the Berkshire Youth Waterside Centre, in Kersey Hall, this weekend (Saturday).

The musical event has been set up to give young people the opportunity to perform in front of their family and friends as well as the local community.

Berkshire Youth said it hopes it will be “even bigger” than the inaugural event which was a “huge success”.

Berkshire Youth’s youth and community manager Kelly Leach said: “We’re delighted to be working with Berkshire Maestros to bring a broad range of musical opportunities to local young people at the Waterside Centre.

“The last event was amazing, and we can’t wait to see who steps up to perform this time.”

Local people have been invited to go along to support the West Berkshire musicians. Berkshire Youth said donations are gratefully received.

Berkshire Maestros’ chief executive Dawn Wren said: “We want to provide regular performing opportunities for young people, both so that they can share their amazing talent but also so that they can hear others and create those connections to get their music heard on a wider platform.

“It can be any kind of music and any kind of instrument.”

Berkshire Maestros’ business development manager Di Hughes has called for young people, under the age of 18, who may be interested in performing.

Each artist is allocated 10 minutes of performance time. She said: “It would be great to hear from young performers from across all different musical genres, as we know there is a broad range of local musical talent.”

There is no need to pre-book and there is no attendance charge.

Refreshments are available to purchase from Colline’s Kitchen.
