Yuletide celebrations at Newbury's Christmas lights switch on!

Father Christmas himself even paid a visit to the town to join in with the celebrations. He was among the ranks in the parade, which set off from West Berkshire Council’s Market Street offices, and arrived in the packed Market Place in time to help Newbury mayor Jo Day turn on the lights to bask the town in a warm Christmas glow.
Crowds flocked in their hundreds, all wrapped up against the winter chill, but the atmosphere was anything but cold and the town was full of Christmas cheer.

Entertainment began at lunchtime in Market Place, with live music from a number of local acts, among them Woolton Hill teenager Emma Lawrence, who took to social media this morning to praise the fantastic crowd.
She said: "Last night's Christmas Lights Switch On in Newbury was amazing! You were all such a great crowd and thank you for your support".
The aroma of food and drinks of season filling the air, from spicy mulled wine to warm cinnamon donuts and other festive favourites.
