38 goals across four games in dramatic morning for Newbury Sunday League
Newbury Sunday League saw a remarkable 38 goals scored across just four matches as the title race continued at a breathless pace.
NWX remain top of the league and show no signs of slowing down.
They won by a huge ten goal margin in their 11-1 win away at Plough on the Green.
Those at City Playground witnessed a Man of the Match performance by Callum Yates, who bagged a hat-trick.
He was joined by Alfie Davis Ellard, who got three of his own, while Charlie Knight scored a brace.
Harry Murtagh, Chad Abrams and Phil Coates got one each, while Jamie Wallin was creator in chief with four assists on the day.
Their title rivals Kingsclere still sit just three points behind however, as they recorded a dominant win of their own.
They beat The Crickets AFC 8-0 at Henwick Playing Fields amid testing weather conditions.
This time it was Seth Fowler who scored a hat-trick, having missed a number of gilt-edged chances a week prior.
Hayden Bethell grabbed two, while George Dyer scored a penalty.
Sammy Hamilton and Archie Burgess grabbed one each to make it eight.
Liam Hill took home Man of the Match with four assists to his name.
In Ecchinswell, Diamond FC took on AFC Aldermaston Sunday 'B' in an eleven goal thriller.
Aldermaston opened the scoring, before Journey Waters equalised for Diamond from a corner.
MJ Godfrey struck to put the hosts in front before AFC made it 2-2.
Jack Blackmon put Diamond 3-2 up, but four uninterrupted Aldermaston goals made it 6-3 to the visitors.
Godfrey’s penalty made it 6-4, before Zander Carnwath reduced the gap to one, but time ran out, meaning Aldermaston went home 6-5 winners.
Morgan Best scored a hat-trick for the victors, while Sam and Josh Allen each grabbed a brace.
Meanwhile, Aldbourne Royals continued their fast start with a 4-3 win at home to Frilsham.
They’re already up to fifth thanks to their three wins from five games.
Sunday’s more dominant victories are certainly a sign of the gap between the league’s more established sides and its new joiners.
The challenge for the seven teams behind the top two, and for the league’s organisers, will be to close that gap for next season.
For now though, Newbury Sunday League clearly has no shortage of entertainment.
