A big week awaits Berkshire’s trainers at Royal Ascot

Berkshire’s best Flat trainers will head to Royal Ascot next week, with plenty of horses already entered for races across all five days.

Andrew Balding of Kingsclere has fourteen prospects already put forward, with Purosangue entered on day one in the King Charles III Stakes at 3:45.

Joining him is Ed Walker’s Makarova, with both horses in with a good chance of placing.

Walker’s Lambourn yard has a double entry later in the day. Ten Bob Tony and Almaqam are put forward for the St James’s Palace Stakes at 4:25, in a race set to feature Derby winner City of Troy.

Owen Burrows’ Alyanaabi also features highly in the early betting, tipped to have a good chance of placing.

On Wednesday, it’s another Burrows horse which is well tipped, as Alflaila attracts attention in the 4:25.

Later on in the 5:05, Andrew Balding will put two forward for the Ascot Royal Hunt Cup, as Notre Belle Bete and Vetiver compete alongside Ed Walker’s Crack Shot.

Thursday sees another Balding horse well liked by punters, as Coltrane enters the Ascot Gold Cup at 4:25 in search of glory.

Friday includes plenty of local entries, particularly in the Ascot King Edward VII Stakes at 5:40.

Andrew Balding will put forward his two entries from the Derby last month, with Sayedaty Sadaty and Bellum Justum returning, whilst Owen Burrows sends out Deira Mile and War Rooms and Ed Walker enters Harper’s Ferry.

Saturday sees another Berkshire-heavy race, with a host of local horses entered in the Ascot Wokingham Stakes at 5:05.

Andrew Balding is set to enter four horses, with King’s Lynn, Fivethousandtoone and Desert Cop all entered, whilst a decision will be made on Purosangue who may compete on the opening day instead.

Ed Walker has entered Popmaster, whilst English Oak has received early backing. Roger Teal will also enter Chipstead, in what promises to be a competitive race.
