A try for Ollie Allan, as England reach U20s final in Cape Town
Ollie Allan scored a try as England beat Ireland to reach the final of the World Rugby U20 Championship.
Held at DHL Stadium in Cape Town, South Africa, Sunday’s clash saw the England youngsters continue their imperious form.
After topping their group by beating Argentina, Fiji and the hosts, they met their rivals in a clash which pitted the last two winners of the U20s Six Nations against each other.
Allan started the match, with the scrum-half making himself known early on.
A high scoring start to the game saw the Irish take a 10-7 lead after half an hour.
In response, it was former Hungerford RFC youngster Allan who made a breakthrough.
Some slick passing from England released full-back Ioan Jones, who was joined by Allan in a two-on-one as the pair raced past the remains of a broken Irish line.
A simple square pass to Allan saw the Leicester Tigers player go over for a well deserved try, his first of the tournament.
The two sides battled on, with Ireland keen to avenge a defeat to France in last year’s final.
Allan was brought off on 54 minutes, saved for the final as England saw out what became a comfortable 31-20 victory, with no tries scored in the second half.
England will be back at the same stadium on Friday at 6pm UK time, as they face reigning champions France.
Allan is expected to start, as the Six Nations holders aim to make it a double in Cape Town.
