All the action from the weekend’s Newbury Netball League fixtures
ACADEMY Falcons packed too much punch for Honesty as they roared to a 62-27 victory in Division 1 of the Newbury Netball League.
It was Honesty, though, who started the better with shooters Gemma Laidlaw and Rachel Seymour on song.
But Falcons gradually began to take control and led 17-7 at the first break.
Falcon’s Molly Milroy-Tompkins and Kirsty Kenneally then piled in the goals, while at the other end Falcons’ Olive Hutton made several great interceptions to see their side into a 30-13 half-time lead.
It was 46-19 after three quarters and although Honesty enjoyed their best quarter, Falcons pulled away to seal an emphatic win.
Best players went to Honesty’s Gemma White and Falcons’ Olive Hutton.
Longstanding rivals Cricketts and Tadley Witches fought out another entertaining game, with Cricketts emerging 52-42 winners.
Tadley produced some great turnovers thanks to the defensive duo of best player Amy Lafford and Charline Ward to see their side into a 13-9 lead.
In the second quarter Cricketts’ WD Amy Taylor was everywhere, helping her side end the quarter with a 29-19 advantage.
Cricketts shooters Beth Abinger and Alice Brand were in dynamic form as they ended the third quarter 37-31 ahead.
Best players were Cricketts’ Amy Marcello and Amy Lafford of Tadley.
Hungerford Extras cruised to a 59-25 victory over Go Green.
Extras led 15-7 at the first break and in the second quarter Extras’ defensive duo of Finley Lawson-Sanchez and Lucy Mugford managed to get the better of Go Green’s GS Hollie Ferris to help extend the lead to 30-13 by half-time.
After the break Go Green’s best player Catherine Walker was outstanding, but in the final quarter Extras pulled away again with excellent shooting from best player Maddie Robinson.
The Five Bells beat Aldair Media 36-27 in an exciting clash.
Five Bells led 16-13 at half-time and they held off a spirited Aldair display to seal the win.
Newbury Jets and Jaguars fought out a thrilling 37-37 draw.
Jets secured an early lead thanks to solid shooting from Shannon Netherway and Ellen Clear.
Jaguars edged into a 19-18 half-time lead and the lead changed hands several times before the game ended all square.
Katie Herbert (Jets) and Caitlin Earwaker (Jaguars) were the players of the match.
Vipers clinched a 50-36 win over Academy Swifts, while Academy Kites showed no mercy to Hungerford Scarletts, winning 68-16.
Reigning champions Fusion outgunned Robinsons 50-30.
Robinsons’ defence of best player Beth Sparks and Bella Castle did not allow Fusion’s attack to settle as their side ended the quarter 12-8 up.
Fusions clawed back the deficit to lead 21-19 at half-time and pulled away in the second half.
GA Nikki Coleman was Fusion’s star player.
Academy Hawks proved too strong for Brights, winning 64-27.
Academy shooters Elizabeth Craig and Di Williams were accurate and efficient, netting 17 first-quarter goals.
Academy extend their lead, adding 12 more goals to their tally.
They added another 16 goals in the third quarter and finished strongly for an excellent win.
