B and B final date for King's Head

Holders face Thatcham pub side at Buckingham in April

KING’S HEAD are through to the Berks and Bucks Sunday Intermediate Cup final after avenging last season’s semi-final defeat when handing Finchampstead Athletic a 5-1 thumping on their own turf on Sunday.

The Newbury Sunday League side started well with Callum Willmoth pulling the strings in the middle and they took the lead when Russell Benham showed his strength before turning to fire in a shot that was parried by the goalkeeper, only as far as Marc Green to hammer in the rebound.

Finchampstead soon equalised but were not on terms for long as a superb strike from Chris Blackford restored Kings Head’s lead, and the second half saw Finchampstead’s chances limited, although Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth did strike the post.

But Green and Gary Dredge set up Benham to tuck home his side’s third goal, and Benham added his second five minutes later from the spot with Dredge completing the scoring.

The Thatcham Removals man of the match was Callum Willmoth.

King’s Head will meet cup holders Wreysbury Bentons in the final at Buckingham Athletic on April 24, and a coach will be running for supporters with tickets available from The Broadway pub.
