Two defeats are tough to take for Tadders
Tadley Calleva suffered FA Vase heartbreak at the weekend, losing 4-2 on penalties to fellow Combined Counties side Guildford City in the first round proper.
Tadley had looked to be heading into the hat for the second-round draw after Ben Wright, returning to the side after an injury lay-off, lobbed the Guildford goalkeeper from distance three minutes into the second half.
And the Tadders had looked to be cruising towards a fourth consecutive clean sheet until 10 minutes from time when Zeid Hannachi found Jacob Breckon, who equalised from 15 yards.
That was how it remained until full time, taking the tie to penalties with a place in the second round on the line.
Guildford then had stand-in keeper Craig Smith to thank, saving two Tadley penalties to send the Surrey side into the next round.
Joint manager Ben Dillon was disappointed Tadley were unable to press home their second-half advantage, but admitted his side failed to create enough clear-cut chances.
He said: “We were in control of the game for large parts but it was a bit stale, a bit flat, we didn’t create enough.
“We broke the deadlock with a great goal that wasn’t far from the halfway line but then we went into cruise control and we took our foot off the gas.
“We tried to make changes to inject pace wide and pin their full backs back, but we conceded late on and then we all know penalties are a lottery.
“We made one mistake at the back, switched off for one second and that’s what cost us.”
Dillon’s side beat Guildford 4-2 in the Combined Counties Premier Division South last month, but were unable to make it a league and cup double against a side that have improved considerably in recent weeks.
“We were confident going into the game, but we knew Guildford are a good side from when we played them in September,” he said.
"All credit to Guildford, they're a decent side, a good set-up and they never gave up.
"I was impressed, that's the sign of a good team so I can't complain."
Tadley's four match unbeaten league run came to an end on Tuesday night following a 3-2 defeat to Camberley Town.
The Tadders came from behind twice thanks to goals from Brett Denham and Ben Wright before a late strike from Camberley denied the visitors a hard earned point.
