Basement embarrassment for Hungerford

HUNGERFORD TOWN followed up their midweek draw at promotion rivals Sholing with a performance described as “embarrassing” by manager Bobby Wilkinson as they were held by rock-bottom Swifts on Saturday.
Hungerford had their chances but rarely looked like a side 19 places above their opponents who, with a little extra up front, might have added to that embarrassment.
The basement boys worked overtime and gave Hungerford little time to settle, even after losing key defender Jamie Willetts to injury midway through the first half.
Stuart Moore had to save from Lewis Pountney and Kyonn Evans and Ryan Mahon shot just over, although Hungerford had penalty appeals turned down when Luke Hooper appeared to be bundled off the ball by Graham Ashton only two yards out.
Mark Draycott hit the post, as did Harry Goodger, but Mahon and Pountney wasted openings for the visitors, who were certainly far happier with the point – ninth of the season – than the home side.
