Berkshire lose in Twenty20 final

Having done extremely well to beat holders Kent by four runs in the semi-finals, they were brought crashing back to earth by Sussex in the final, held at Wokingham Cricket Club’s impressive ground on Monday.
Berkshire were bowled out for just 52, and it took Sussex less than six overs to reach their target, without loss.
Having been put in to bat, Berks never recovered from quickly losing England player, Heather Knight, and Lissy McLeod, along with Aussie Asha Smith. They were 15-5 at one stage. Only Linsey Smith, with 12, reached double figures. There were three wickets apiece for Izi Noakes and Georgia Elwiss. Elwiss then finished on 16 not out, while Alexia Walker remained unbeaten on 39 as Sussex lifted the trophy.
Earlier, Berkshire had made 117-9 against Kent with Smith scoring 47, Alex Rogers 19 and Carla Rudd 18.
England captain, Charlotte Edwards, made 37 in Kent’s reply of 113-9. Knight took 3-19 and Sherisa Gumbs 2-20 on her 16th birthday.
Team manager John Dickinson said: “It was a very disappointing final, but the girls can still be proud of themselves. We have reached the final three years in a row, having won in 2010, and that is not a bad effort.”
