Berkshire through to Lord's final

Berkshire defeated Cumberland by 58 runs in the semi-final of the MCCA Trophy at Falkland yesterday (Sunday)

BERKSHIRE are through to another Lord's final after beating Cumberland by 58 runs in the semi-final of the Minor Counties Cricket Association (MCCA) Trophy at Falkland yesterday (Sunday).

Batting first at Enborne Lodge, Berkshire started convincingly with an opening partnership of 195 between Michael Roberts (103) and David Barnes (86).

And despite the fall of four wickets for only 24 runs, a quick fire 41 from former Hampshire, Middlesex and England spinner Shaun Udal, coupled with a few minor contributions from the lower order batsmen, helped Berkshire reach 300-9 off of their 50 overs.

And Berkshire's bowlers completed the job to send the side to Lord's for their first final since 2008, when Berkshire lost to Devon.

Tom Lambert (4-42), Udal (3-40) and Bjorn Mordt (1-47) helped the side bowl Cumberland out for 242 from 45.2 overs.

Berkshire will now face Hertfordshire in the final at Lord's on August 25.
