Best Mate's trainer back on point-to-point duty
Henrietta Knight targets runner at Lockinge meeting on Easter Monday
FORMER trainer Henrietta Knight will saddle her first point-to-point-runner in 25 years in The Cazenove Capital Point-to-Point and Country Day at Lockinge on Easter Monday.
One of the most popular fixtures in the point-to-point circuit, a crowd of up to 10,000 is expected to see the six jump races and two pony races, with a a hound parade and farmer's market among the other attractions.
Betfred Gold Cup hero Coneygree will be parading before racing, which will feature Henrietta Knight’s Port Golan, who pulled up in a hunter chase last time out and holds an entry in the mixed open. “He’s in good form and did a nice bit of work earlier this week but doesn’t want the ground too firm,” she sad.
If declared, Port Golan will be Knight's first point-to-point runner in more than a quatrter-of-a-century. She was a champion point-to-point trainer before turning her attention to professional racing and saddling triple Cheltenham Gold Cup-winner Best Mate and Champion Chase and King George Chase winner Edredon Bleu.
Gates open at 9am with entertainment starting at 11.15am and the first race at 2pm.
