Bird leads the way as Falkland win big
Falkland Cricket Club rose to fourth in the league on Saturday following a big win at home to Gerrards Cross.
Falkland lost the toss and were made to bat first, as captain James Bird and fellow opener Brandon Gilmour headed out to the middle.
Gilmour was quickly dismissed, bowled by Harry Spear for nought after just four balls.
Bird’s fortunes couldn’t have been more different.
He played a masterful innings, hitting 146 from 164 balls to lead by example.
He hit thirteen fours and three sixes in an innings which spanned over three hours.
Bird was finally dismissed with his side 247-7.
Anthony Hennis made a tidy contribution with 26, while Bobby Brown managed a sharp 48 in the middle-order.
Falkland finished 269-8 after 58 overs at the conclusion of their innings, leaving Gerrards Cross with a mountain to climb.
They too made a good start, with opener Chris Marrow making 55 to kick things off.
George Harvey then made a decent 30, having come in at three.
Their innings fell apart from there however, as Bobby Brown tormented the remaining batsmen.
He went 6-25 with the ball, finishing off the visitors to help seal a 122 run victory.
The win puts Falkland up to fourth in the Home Counties Cricket League Division Two.
It was their third win from six games.
They travel to Horspath on Saturday.
