Blues bid to shake off mauling

Six-hit Blues hope to forget 112-point disaster at Bournemouth with visit of Old Redcliffians

NEWBURY BLUES bid to bury last week's 112-point humiliation at Bournemouth when they take on Old Redcliffians at Monks Lane on Saturday, still looking for their first league win of the season.

The newly promoted Redclfifians from the village of Brislington come to Newbury per cent win record, the latest a 40-29 home success over Old Patesians last week and they will be led at scrum half by former Scotland international Graham Beveridge.

Blues consigned the Bournemouth nightmare to the waste paper bin with director of rugby Andy Widdop saying: "We didn't even talk about it at training."

He will be hoping that resources are not as stretched as last week when 30 players cried off through injury or other reasons, and he will have Alex Kane, Richard Hooper, Luke Sawyer, Paul Jones and Josh Bartlett back in contention.
