Blues busted in Bournemouth
Ton-up days are back as league leaders run riot with 18 tries
Bournemouth 112 Newbury Blues 5
RUNAWAY league leaders Bournemouth walked away with the points in a one-sided fiasco of a miss-match at Chapel Gate on Saturday.
Eighteen tries, many of astonishing ease, left Blues stuck fast in the league's drop zone with the massacre getting under way after only 41 seconds as Blues were made to pay heavily for some woeful tackling and defending, not to mention giveaway kicking from the re-starts!
The pattern was set by that opening score when Bournemouth claimed the kick off under no pressure, and saw none afterwards when fly half Scott Chislett's kick was taken by Newbury full back Danny Williams, who spilled it under Anthony Dunkerley's tackle and winger James Flynn had an easy passage to the first of his four tries.
And it just got worse as Bournemouth topped the half-century before the break with full back Robbie Searle netting 22 points from two tries and five conversions. Dunkerley also touched down twice and Flynn got his second, while Ben Stewart and Gavin Hart also helped themselves.
Five tries in 11 second half minutes continued the onslaught with Flynn's third, Alex Horne, Bruce and Dunkerley again and Connolly once more all on the mark, Dan Pollard taking over kicking duties, before Blues got try mark for endeavour when substitute Alistair Widdop drove over from a penalty and lineout.
But Connolly, Flynn and Bruce wrapped it up and really, they could have had a lot more but for too much walking, talking, dropping and single-minded pursuits.
