Blues dress up for Windsor challenge

Charity fund raising and points the targets

NEWBURY BLUES will be back in the pink for Saturday’s visit of Windsor when they again don their all-pink strip as part of a charity day.

Last year’s raised around £6,000 for three chosen charities, and this year the proceeds will be directed towards Cancer Research with a raffle, auction and collection adding to the take.

Blues will also be hoping to collect on the field as they continue to chase Salisbury for the play-off place in South West One East. Despite a run of 10 straight wins, they had slipped six points behind their rivals with three games to go and while Blues have Windsor at Monks Lane, Salisbury go to Leighton Buzzard on Saturday.

“We can’t let the gap grow to seven or eight points,” said head coach Lee Goodall. “I’m not chucking in the towel but if we don’t get a bonus point this wek and Salisbury get one, we are then totally reliant upon them slipping up twice, which I can’t see happening.”

Blues have fitness concerns over Ryan Davis and Ben Hicks and are definitely without Anthony Hackett and Andy Herriott, but Robbie Drysdale,Joe Pigott and Kyle Doel are all fit and available.
