Blues go down again

RUGBY: Newbury crash at Amersham and Tadley lose unbeaten tag: but Thatcham romp home in debry

NEWBURY BLUES made it four defeats out of four when going down 38-19 at Amersham and Chiltern to leave themselves stuck in the bottom two in Division Three South and West.

The home side had failed to win in its first season following a third successive promotion, but they swept to a bonus point win despite an early try and conversion from Josh Bartlett and Oscar Matthews respectively.

Alex Kane touched down a debut try after the break, but his late converted second was not enough to give Blues a consolation point as they fell to another defeat.

They now face two tough games, at home to newly deposed leaders Barnstaple at Monks Lane on Saturday, and then away to the rampant Bournemouth side that deposed them the following Saturday.

THATCHAM maintained their perfect record in the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Premier League with a 79-7 derby win at HUNGERFORD.

Two tries in the opening four minutes set the pattern with Simon Niven and Martin Reeve touching down and another quick double followed from prop Matt Langdon and Luke Evans. Niven's second, Toby Littlechild an winger Stewart made it 43-0 at the interval before Hungerford got their consolation try and conversion early in the second period.

But three more from Niven took his tally to five with Aaron Butt, and a brace from number eight Tom Allen completing the tally.

TADLEY'S unbeaten start ended when they went down 44-8 at home to Windsor in Southern Counties North.
