Fifty-point return keeps promotion hopes buzzing
NEWBURY BLUES hit a half century as they romped to a 50-5 win at Leighton Buzzard in Southy West One East.
The home side had only narrowly lose to leaders Towcestrans in their previous game on their own ground, but after establishng a 17-5 interval lead, Blues cut loose after the break to claim a bonus point that now leaves them two behind second in the table Salisbury after their home win over Swindon, and one ahead of the Witney side they entertain in their next fixture on February 7.
Thatcham’s Southern Counties North survival battle is still alive after their 13-6 home win over Marlow, but Tadley Tigers’ Berks, Bucks and Oxon Premier hopes took a dive when they crashed to a 36-15 home defeat at the hands of leaders Gosford All Blacks.
Hungerford also sustained a survival blow in the same division when going down 47-10 at Slough.
