Newbury Blues were defeated 90-10 at home by the league leaders Ealing Trailfinders

BLUES managed to avoid another ton-up defeat – just – as Ealing's Phil Chesters ran in seven tries to enhance his role as the top touchdown master in National League Two South.

He helped himself to three in the first half and four in the second as Ealing coasted home against a Newbury side that worked overtime but was always outclassed as the league leaders walked home 14 tries.

Chesters brought up Ealing's four-try bonus-point after 22 minutes while co-winger Owen Bruynseels also scored a first half treble with Dinos Alexopoulos and Peter Hodgkinson running home further tries as Ealing led 54-3 at the interval.

Chester's second half foursome was supported by tries from lock Ryan Gregory and centre Ron McLean-Dents, who kicked 10 conversions.

Newbury's supporters cheered their own side's try as if it was a cup-winner, 10 minutes after the break when full back Oscar Matthews intercepted but fell short three yards short of the line, flanker Paul Archer following up to score before Matthews potted the conversion to add to a first half penalty.
