NEWBURY BLUES will be training as usual while the Six Nations eats into league rugby over the next few weeks.

“We have two games in February and two in March,” said head coach Lee Goodall, whose side is closing in on Salisbury in the play-off spot in South West One East.

“People are asking can we get promotion?,” he said, “but the way we look at it, we just want to win, build momentum and to use the old cliche, take each game as it comes.”

That next game is on Saturday week against the Witney side immediately below Blues in the table, and they could strengthen Blues’ challenge.

“A four or five-pointer next weekend puts a gap between them and us and could make it a two-horse race for second place,” said Goodall.
