Blues lose out as Maids take charge

Away form suffers again as derby rivals take the points

BLUES’ loss of away form reared its head again as they let slip a good position to enable their Berkshire rivals to rise above them in the South West One East table.

Newbury’s bright start was swept aside as Maidenhead struck twice in quick succession with scrum half Mark Childerhouse touching down the first after prop Paul Britton had dismantled the Newbury defence.

And Newbury were then undone from a drive that ended with skipper Myke Parrott touching down, Mike Davies adding one conversion.

Playing against the wind, Blues gave themselves a grip on the game when Ben O’Shea rounded off good work from Ryan Trevaskis and Iain Herriott to score with Trevaskis cutting the gap to five points at the interval.

It should have been the springboard for a good second half, and that looked like being the case when Joe Pigott’s break into the lines ended with Josh Love touching down and Trevaskis giving Blues the lead.

But then it was all change as Maids took charge, Ross Muil setting up Christoph Bart to score, and fly half Mike Virgo twisted his way through for another try before the game ended in a flurry of handbags that saw Blues’ Tom Sanders yellow-carded and Bart shown a red card for a punch.
