Blues may give league debut to 18-year-old

Myles Roberts Bailey could make his bow against Clifton on Saturday after impressing in a cup match last week

NEWBURY BLUES may give flying winger Myles Roberts Bailey his league debut against Clifton at Monks Lane on Saturday.

The 18-year-old impressed when scoring for Hampshire under 20s against Newbury's development side recently and last Sunday scored five tries in Newbury's 59-13 win over Reading in the Berkshire Cup at Monks Lane.

“He has raw pace and we haven't really got anyone like that,” said director of rugby Andy Widdop, who also found himself on the bench for that Reading game.

That will not be necessary for the visit of Clifton, when Blues are likely to have another new signing in scrum half Dominic Payne on replacement duty after making the switch from Newbury Stags.
