Blues' relegation confirmed
The Brislington side are themselves threatened by the drop and stood one place outside the relegation zone prior to the game. But they swept aside Blues, scoring 38 points without reply in the first half and going on to hand them their 20th straight defeat of the campaign despite three second half consolation touchdowns from the visitors.
That means Blues cannot now escape the drop – even if they were to win all six of their remaining games with bonus points, and continues a staggering downfall that has taken Blues out of rugby’s second tier and into junior competitions in the space of four seasons.
Blues will now line up outside the national league system in South West Division One East next season – a level lower than when rugby union’s league system was set up in 1987.
