Blues showdown at the top
Unbeaten record taken to leaders Towcestrians in promotion clash
NEWBURY BLUES face what is probably their biggest test of the season when they go to South West One East leaders Towcestrians on Saturday.
The Northants side have a 100 pr cent home record and are just a couple of wins away from sealing their promotion to National Three South West.
Blues go into the game unbeaten in eight matches and are chasing secon place and an end of season play-off chance to make the same leap, several season after moving in the opposite direction.
“It is massive,” said Blues head coach Lee Goodall. “The pressure anxiety and excitement are starting to build now.
“We’re the in-form team in the league at the moment and that adds more bite to it. Its their cup final, and its ous as well. If they can get four or five points, it’s pretty nuich job done for them.
“If we get a win, that keeps us on track with Salisbury and our run-ins are on a par.”
Blues will be without scrum half Joe Pigott while Andy Herriott and Ryan Trevaskis will undertake fitness tests as Goodall and his team select from a 20-man squad.
