Blues suffer another heavy defeat

Newbury Blues lost 108-0 against promotion-chasing Richmond on Saturday

Richmond 108 Newbury Blues 0

NEWBURY BLUES were hammered for a ton for the third time this season as promotion-chasing Richmond ran in 18 tries in a one-sided affair at the Athletic Ground.

They had their four-try bonus point in the bag after only 11 minutes, had topped the half-century before the interval and hit the three-figure mark in the closing stages after kicker Tom Platt had contrived to miss half of his conversions attempts.

Newbury were behind after 130 seconds and a much-changed Richmond side cantered home with winger James Greenwood scoring six tries, Nick Moore four, Alex MacLennan three, Peter J. Clarke and Guillaume Schueller two apiece and Peter Clarke the other score, Platt adding nine conversions.

Blues never seriously threatened the home line and never took a shot at goal as their points-against tally topped the 1,000 mark for the season.

They entertain league leaders Ealing Trailfinders at Monks Lane on Saturday.
