Blues win again but play-offs are now out of reach
First Swindon success but Salisbury beat Witney to clinch promotion chance
NEWBURY BLUES tasted success and disappointment after continuing their winning streak with their first ever win at Swindon.
Their 18-12 win was their 14th game without defeat, but Salisbury’s 20-14 home win over Witney means that they cannot now be overtaken and they will gtake on Thornbury or Newent for the remaining place in National Three South West.
Thatcham lost 36-23 at Beaconsfield, but Drifters’ defeat at Wallingford means that Thatcham are all but sfe in Southern Counties North, barring a surprise final weekend upheaval.
Tadley Tigers won 10-8 at Abingdon but cannot now catch Milton Keynes in the race for second place in the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Premier Division after they were handed a walkover when scheduled hosts Chipping Norton cried off.
Hungerford lost 29-3 at Crowthorne, but are safely clear of the drop zone.
