Captain's Day celebrations in full swing at West Berks Golf Club

Bob Ekins described his Captain’s Charity Day at West Berkshire Golf Club as a great success.

He said: “We were blessed with fine weather and the event provided a great day’s golf for 115 players with lots of prizes while raising more than £2,100 for this year’s charity, Newbury Lions Club."

Andrew Grayson, Mustapha Mzouri, Kevin Hopwood and Darren Morton were the overall winners with 87 points, ahead of Dan Bowsher, Chris Prior, Stephen Fisher and Ian Lewin in second.

Rukshi Watson won the ladies’ monthly medal, scoring gross 94, net 71, to beat Renee Wheeler in second and Gale McAuley in third.

Keith Hawton won the men’s Saturday stableford with 42 points ahead of a three-way tie of Dave Ware, Stephen Drysdale and Charles Dixon.

The team comprising Brian Joyce, Simone Diamond and Babs Collyer won the mixed midweek competition, a 'modified multiplier', ahead of Patrick Wilmore, Renee Wheeler and Ann Brown in second.

The seniors' team celebrated their last fixture of the season with a fine 5-1 victory away to Witney Lakes while the Saturday team won 3½ to ½ at home to Ogbourne Downs.
