Boxing pair lose decisions
Thames Valley ABC pair, Jake Kingham and Robert Phillips, both lost decisions while representing the Home Counties
THAMES Valley ABC pair Jake Kingham and Robert Phillips lost decisions when they represented the Home Counties in the Royal Navy National Schools Championships Bexley Heath on Saturday.
Facing a powerful London Division, the 12-year old Kingham boxed at 42 kilos against Tyrone Wynter from Repton Boys club in a bout fought at all-out pace by both fighters.
Kingham's left and right combinations rocked his opponent and forced Wynter to come back with a stronger left hook in an all-action bout that lasted the full three rounds before Wynter was given the decision.
Phillips, also 12, boxed at 50 kilos against Fred Secular from Bromley and Downham ABC, and the latter dominated the first round by forcing Phillips back to establish a lead.
Phillips got into his boxing in the second round, catching Secular with straight rights and he had the best of the final round, but it came too late to sway the judges.
The London division won 17 of the 21 bouts.
