Come and celebrate 250 years of Kingsclere cricket with Matthew Hoggard and Andrew Balding

2024 is a momentous year for cricket in Kingsclere.

On September 19th 1774, The Reading Mercury and Oxford Gazette carried a very brief notice stating “On September 27th on Barton Down near Kentbury, Berks. Uffington v Kingsclere (Hants) for a Silver cup.”

Who won the match, or where the silver cup ended up, remains a mystery.

What is certain though, is that this year marks 250 years of Cricket in Kingsclere, a quarter of a millennium!

To celebrate, Kingsclere Cricket Club are holding a commemorative event at Park House Stables on Sunday 25th August.

The event will raise funds for the club, as well as charitable donations to the Lords Taverners, the Air Ambulance and St Michael’s Hospice.

Gates open at 11:30 for the match against Andrew Balding’s Park House Pirates Invitation XI, which starts at 12:30, featuring former England cricketer Matthew Hoggard and a member of the Southern Vipers.

In addition, there will be a parade of Kingsclere trained racehorses and the opportunity to watch them perform on the gallops.

An Inflatables Park will give the younger generation plenty to enjoy and there will be a number of trade stands from sponsors including Highclere Castle Gin, Marshall Land Rover and Farol John Deere.

Food stands include Hoggy’s Grill, The Pie Hole, Honesty Bakery and an Ice Cream parlour.

Beer, cider, wine and soft drinks will be available from the beer tent. To round off the day there will be live music from covers band Big Red.
